Destination Spotlight: Cyprus

From Village Ovens to Wine Festivals — A 3-Day Cyprus Itinerary
Listen… I didn’t know what to expect from Cyprus, but let me tell you — this island was a vibe. After wrapping up our Greece adventure in Athens, four Traveling Black Women hopped a quick flight from Athens to Larnaca (LCA) on Cyprus Airways on a Friday Morning to see what this Mediterranean gem had to offer for the weekend.
So where is Cyprus? Cyprus is south of Turkey, north of Egypt, and technically in Asia. The vibe is completely Mediterranean. Heads up though: they drive on the right side of the road, so if you’re renting a car, prepare your nerves.
Here’s our 3-Day Cyprus Itinerary!
Day One: Limassol Nights
We stayed at NYX Limassol, a stylish, artsy hotel about 45 minutes from the airport. The city gave coastal-modern energy — walkable, lively, and full of restaurants and bars that come alive at night.

That evening, we wandered into a spot one of the girls found online called Industry Bar — a bar-slash-club that honestly deserves its own shout-out. The food? Mediocre at best (think burgers and bar bites). But the hookah and the playlist? 10/10. The DJ, PhatCat, started spinning around 10 PM and had the crowd vibing to Hip Hop, R&B, and Afrobeats all night.

Day Two: Bread, Wine & Village Life
The next morning, we traded nightlife for village life and joined a Cypriot cultural tour that took us into the countryside.

Picture it…narrow cobblestone streets, clay ovens, the smell of fresh bread baking, and locals greeting you like family. It felt like a place out of a book.

We got our hands dirty kneading dough, watched it bake the old-school way, and sat down for a traditional Cypriot lunch — complete with a wine tasting of white, red, and rose.
The experience reminded me how much joy there is in slowing down — connecting with people, hearing their stories, and realizing travel doesn’t always need to be a checklist of “must-sees.” Sometimes it’s just good bread, good wine, and good company.
Day Three: Ancient Ruins, Cooking Class & Wine Fest
Our final full day was packed! We started with a half day city tour including Paphos Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can literally walk among ruins that date back to the 4th century BC. From there, we explored the Tombs of the Kings, carved directly into the rock — and yes, it’s giving “main character in an adventure movie.”
But the real highlight? Our Cypriot cooking class in a nearby village. We learned to make:
- Koupepia (vine leaves stuffed with rice and minced meat)
- Moussaka layered with béchamel
- Kleftiko, a slow-cooked lamb dish so tender it basically melts on contact
- And Baklava — sticky, sweet, and worth every calorie.
And because no meal in Cyprus is complete without it, we had plenty of Cypriot rose wine to wash it all down.

The day didn’t end there. Early that day our guide for the Paphos tour casually mentioned there was a Cyprus Wine Festival happening near our hotel in Limassol.
As soon as we were done with our class and dinner, we were on our way back to Limassol to for the festival. The festival, which ran from 27 Sept through 5 Oct 2025 cost only 5 euro to enter. Once inside, you can buy a wine glass (or plastic wine jug) and receive unlimited wine tastings.

Departure Day: One Last Toast
The next morning, we flew back to Athens — tired, full, and slightly more knowledgeable about Cypriot wine than we expected to be!
Cyprus gave us exactly what we needed: rest, laughter, culture, and plenty of vibes. It’s the kind of place where you can sip, dance, and learn a bit of history — all in one weekend.
If you’re looking for a reset off the beaten path, Cyprus is a great option to consider!
